I recently went through a drive thru to get a coworker a drink. The person who took my money said, ‘have a good day, and be safe out there, honey’ before I drove away.
I’m not sure why, but those quick extra words—words they did not have to share with me—really…….hugged my heart? I can’t quite describe the emotion I felt, but I knew I felt held by this total stranger I will undoubtedly never see again (as this wasn’t a place I frequent for myself.) It reminded me how simple little words can be so encouraging and make someone’s day. You never know the impact you might have on someone just by simply sharing some extra, seemingly insignificant, kind words.
Share some kind words with a stranger today. Words that aren’t expected, required, or forced. Speak from your heart, but share a little more than you normally would. And come back and tell me what you said, who you said it to, and how it made you feel. Bonus points if you can remember their response (verbal or nonverbal.)
XOXO, MER
